Minto Communities GTA recently broke ground on Phase 1 of The Heights of Harmony, a community in Oshawa’s Kedron neighbourhood that has won awards for its sustainable design, biophilia, and unique esthetics.

Located in North Oshawa at Harmony Road N. and Winchester Road E., the community has been recognized as the recipient of the 2023 BILD award for Project of the Year in the low-rise category. Further, Minto Communities GTA garnered accolades as the Green Builder of the Year at both BILD and Durham Region Home Builders’ Association (DRHBA) 2023.

Spanning 39.5 ha (97.5 acres), this is the developer’s second project in Oshawa, increasing much-needed family housing in one of Canada’s fastest growing communities. Building off the success in Markham’s Union Village, The Heights of Harmony is an example of how developers can successfully integrate net-zero features and keep sustainability as a core value when building homes.

Inspired by the rolling hills of the Kedron farms, The Heights of Harmony’s first phase offers 6.1-m (20-ft) traditional townhouses, and 11 m (36 ft) and 13.1 m (43 ft) single-family houses in a variety of architectural styles, including the introduction of Minto Communities GTA’s new modern farmhouse style. The modern farmhouse is designed to feature a contemporary esthetic, with large picture windows and contrasting architectural features.

A 11.3-ha (28-acre) park will anchor The Heights of Harmony community, alongside other natural amenities such as a community pond within walking distance of the houses. The Heights of Harmony phase one homeowners had the opportunity to include a net-zero upgrade to their home purchase, improving comfort, performance, and enabling homes to create as much energy as they consume over a calendar year. This upgrade helps reduce emissions by an astounding 85 per cent. Once complete, the project will encompass approximately 800 homes. Phase two is expected to launch soon, bringing to market back-to-back townhouses for first-time homebuyers, and rear lane homes for growing families.
