For more than 70 years, Minto has grown from a family-founded homebuilder in Ottawa into a fully integrated real estate company operating across Canada and the United States. Explore some of the key milestones that have shaped our journey.
Minto History
- 19551955
Founded in Ottawa, Ontario by the Greenberg family.
- 19651965
Built 5,000 homes and became one of Ottawa's largest private property management companies, laying the foundation for our purpose-built rental business.
- 19781978
Expanded into Florida, establishing Minto's presence in the United States.
- 19861986
Entered the Greater Toronto Area.
- 19991999
Built our 50,000th home.
- 20012001
Launched our partnership with the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO) through the Minto Dream Home for the Dream of a Lifetime Lottery.
- 20082008
Developed Canada's first Net Zero Inspiration Home.
- 2012-20152012-2015
Expanded operations into Calgary, Alberta.
- 20172017
Partnered with Margaritaville Holdings to launch Latitude Margaritaville, a new active-adult community brand in the United States.
- 20182018
Created Minto Apartment REIT, establishing a publicly traded platform for our apartment business and purpose-built rental portfolio.
- 2019-2020
Expanded rental operations into Montréal, Quebec, and British Columbia growing our purpose-built rental portfolio in major Canadian markets.
2019-2020 - 20232023
Celebrated 100,000 homes built.
- 20242024
Named one of Canada's Best Managed Companies.
- 20252025
Celebrated 70 years in business and the 25th Minto Dream Home for CHEO.
- 20262026
Expanded into Texas with Latitude Margaritaville and completed the privatization of Minto Apartment REIT.
